Book My Course
A Level 1 awareness programme for employees who come into contact with food but do not directly handle high-risk products. Meets the baseline legal training requirement and is the ideal first course for new starters.
Who is it for: Retail staff, catering assistants, kitchen porters, production line workers, delivery personnel, and any new starters in a food handling role.
Designed for those who hold or are taking on responsibility for food safety within a business. Provides the knowledge and tools to implement, manage, and monitor a food safety system — required by law where a designated food safety manager is in place.
Who is it for: Food business owners, kitchen managers, catering supervisors, production managers, and anyone with designated food safety responsibility.
UK law requires that any business handling or preparing food has staff trained to a level appropriate for their role — and that those responsible for food safety hold a recognised qualification. Every course delivered by The Academy results in certification accepted by food safety regulators, environmental health officers, and employers.
Environmental health officers can and do inspect training records as part of routine and complaint-driven inspections. Untrained food handlers expose your business to enforcement notices, fines, and reputational damage.
Every food handler must be trained to a level matching their responsibilities — not a generic, one-size-fits-all approach.
Where a designated food safety manager or supervisor is in place, that individual must hold a recognised Level 3 management qualification.
Certification records must be available for inspection by environmental health officers and auditors at any time.
New employees handling food should be trained at the appropriate level as part of their onboarding — not left until a later date.
Supermarkets, convenience stores, butchers, and bakeries — frontline staff handling, displaying, and selling food products.
Restaurants, cafés, hotels, and event catering — kitchen and front-of-house staff working directly with food preparation.
Production lines, packing facilities, and processing plants where consistent food safety standards are essential.
Cold chain logistics, delivery drivers, and warehouse staff handling food products through the supply chain.
