Legislation in Managing Food Safety

There is food safety legislation from the ‘Farm to Fork’ e.g. Food Safety Act 1990 and Regulation (EC) No 852/2004. This law states that every person working within the industry has a legal, commercial and moral obligation to provide safe food.

These food laws are a complex subject and most acts and regulations affecting the food industry are difficult to interpret, however, ignorance of the law is no defence in the event of a prosecution.

Proprietors, managers and supervisors must therefore become conversant with legislation which affects their work. Food Safety Training (Level 2)

Food Safety Training Level 2, aims to educate food handlers on potential food hazards, their legal responsibilities and the practical measures that they should take in order to safeguard food.

Who is it for?

This course is ideal for all food handlers. It is also particularly relevant for those involved in the food preparation and processing stage, and for those who handle high-risk foods within their role.

It is recommended that you first complete the Food Safety Essentials course (Level 1), before enrolling in this course, which goes into much more detail surrounding food safety. Upon successful completion, you will be awarded a certificate in Food Safety Training Level 2.

What will this course cover?

This course will ensure a good and thorough understanding of proper food safety practices. Trainees will develop an understanding of the following;
  • Key terminology such as contamination, pathogens, cross-contamination, high-risk foods, personal hygiene, hazards, food poisoning and danger zone, Natasha’s Law, allergens, food labelling, and food temperature checks.

Food Safety Management Training (Level 3)

Food Safety Management Training Level 3 aims to provide managers and supervisors with the essential information and practical tools that they need in order to effectively manage a food business and provide safe food to consumers.

Who is it for?

This course is essential for food business proprietors and/or staff who hold management and supervisory responsibilities within a food business.

Upon successful completion, you will be awarded a certificate in Food Safety Management Training Level 3.

What will this course cover?

Owners, managers and supervisors within a food business are an essential link in maintaining high standards of food hygiene and preventing food poisoning.

This course will not only educate you on the legal requirements and best practices within a food business but also look at the key role that you play in leading by example and ensuring standards are in place and maintained. Throughout the course, trainees will develop an understanding of:
