First Aid Training Course

The Academy provides First Aid training courses across Northern Ireland, helping people develop the fundamental skills to deal with unforeseen events and accidents.

First Aid training instructors will teach participants how to cope with various emergency situations such as managing bleeding or assisting someone who has had a heart attack. Ultimately, the course provides essential training to provide medical assistance if and when required.

Who Is The Training For?

First Aid Training is aimed at learners who wish to become emergency first-aiders. This training is helpful in a variety of settings, including but not limited to; the workplace, schools, sports clubs and other organisations.

If for example, you are volunteering in a sports club where there is an increased risk of injury then this type of first aid training will enable you to deal with an emergency and prevent it from getting worse.

This First Aid qualification also meets the legal requirements for organisations that have identified staff who need to be trained as emergency first-aiders, to assist them in complying with the first-aid needs assessment.

First Aid training is beneficial for both personal and professional development. It not only enhances your position as an asset to your company, but it also demonstrates that you are willing to commit to a course that is not mandatory and place yourself in a position of responsibility.

Health and Safety (First-Aid) Regulations 1981

The Health and Safety (First-Aid) Regulations 1981 requires employers to provide adequate and appropriate equipment, facilities and personnel to enable first aid to be given to employees if they are injured or become ill at work.

These regulations apply to all workplaces, including those with five or fewer employees, and to the self-employed. How much first-aid provision an employer has to make depends on the circumstances of each workplace.

First Aid Training in the Workplace

Businesses have a duty of care and legal responsibility to ensure they have set sufficient First Aid provisions, depending on the level of risk associated with their workplace.

First aid training is particularly important for businesses operating in high-risk environments, such as warehouses, factories, construction sites, etc. It ensures that those employees are equipped to deal with a casualty confidently until medical assistance arrives if needed.

The Academy provides industry-leading First Aid training for employers seeking to enhance and manage the first-aid policy within the workplace.

First Aid Training in Schools

It is a legal requirement to have a health and safety (first-aid) policy in place at schools, in order to protect both employees and non-employees such as students.

First aid provisions must be available while people are on a school or college premises. It must also be available when staff, pupils and students are working elsewhere, on school or college activities, including any off-site activity such as educational visits.

Schools and colleges should carry out a first aid needs assessment to help inform that policy, which may identify the need for training select staff in First Aid. The Academy can provide comprehensive First Aid training for staff who are working in schools.
